12/17/2023 0 Comments Impulsive force concussion![]() If the head injury will affect the student-athlete’s academics, the Associate Dean and Associate Chancellor of Student Life will be contacted. The athletic training staff will notify the team physician following the injury and a follow up appointment will be made for the in-house orthopedic clinic at RU-C with the physician. Any student-athlete who is diagnosed with a concussion by the athletic training staff will not participate for the remainder of the day. It is the responsibility of the student-athlete to understand the symptoms of a concussion and to report those symptoms to the athletic training staff after a head injury has been sustained. If traumatic brain injury is suspected, the student-athlete will be transported to Cooper University Hospital immediately. The athletic training staff will provide immediate “on the field” concussion assessment. ImPACT testing will also be used as a tool to aid in concussion documentation and return to play guidelines for the athletic training staff. The baseline ImPACT test will be used as part of the student-athlete’s clearance for participation. The Athletic Training Staff will use the ImPACT concussion software to baseline test ALL incoming student-athletes, including freshmen and transfers. Rutgers University-Camden Athletic Training Staff works cooperatively with the athletics department’s team physician to manage concussions according to the most current recommendations set by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA).ĭefinition: The NATA defines a concussion as a direct blow to the head or elsewhere on the body from an “impulsive” force transmitted to the head causing an immediate and short-lived impairment of neurologic function.
